How does one go from selling brake pads in North Carolina to creating a bourbon company? If you’re John Little, CEO and Master Distiller of Smooth Ambler, you take what you learn from selling brake pads and spending 15 years in and out of the restaurant business and put it to work to create Smooth Ambler Spirits in West Virginia with your father-in-law.

“What I always felt like was the curse of ‘jack of all trades, master of none’, in a way, prepared me to run a small distillery,” says Little. “I was able to use my mechanical skills to know how to set up equipment and troubleshoot mechanical issues. I had sales experience and I had taken a little accounting in college.”
