Bourbon Brotherhood & Whisky Chicks Mixer Raises $36k for Vets

The 3rd annual Bourbon Mixer recently took place at the Gillespie, an art-deco style building built in 1887, the same year The Old Taylor Distillery was built 60 miles down the road in Millville, Kentucky. Apparently, 1887 was a good year for both architecture and bourbon. The event was attended by more than 250 fans and included 13 distilleries offering guests a large selection of 45 different spirits.

The money raised for this year’s event is double what was raised in 2015. This funding will help at least 36 homeless veterans make the transition from homelessness to a new home of their own. The funds are used to pay deposits and get furniture and household goods for veterans’ new homes as part of the Rx: Housing Veterans program. In 2015 the program found homes for 838 homeless veterans in the Louisville area, and is able to keep up with the around 25 additional veterans who become homeless each month.
